During the 2023 Membership Meeting of the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC), Skagit County Commissioner Lisa Janicki was sworn in as the new Association President. Commissioner Janicki has been a part of the WSAC Executive Team, serving as both the 2nd and 1st Vice President for the past two years and has represented counties on a number of statewide boards including the Washington State Board of Natural Resources, Forest Practices Board, County Road Administration Board, Jails Standards Task Force, and others during her tenure as a Skagit County Commissioner.

This year’s County Leaders Conference in Spokane County saw 350 individuals gather to share, network, and learn how to better serve counties around Washington State. Topics included land use and environmental law, homelessness services, solid waste, skill building, broadband, film productions for economic development, AI in government, infrastructure, leadership, and much more! This year’s conference was themed Be the Leader You Would Follow and focused on leadership in the past, present, and future. Commissioner Janicki has been leading her county as a commissioner since 2015 and has been very active in the Association as well as the National Association of Counties.

Also elected to join President Janicki on the WSAC’s leadership team were:

  • 1st Vice President, Lincoln County Commissioner Rob Coffman
  • 2nd Vice President, Clallam County Commissioner Mark Ozias
  • Immediate Past President, Spokane County Commissioner Mary Kuney

Upon being sworn in as the 117th President of the Washington State Association of Counties, Commissioner Janicki remarked, “I am truly honored to work with so many incredible elected county officials. It is so important that we work together, collaborate, and compromise to advance issues and policies that benefit counties and our communities.”
