EVENT DESCRIPTION

WSALPHO’s last Learning Symposium of 2025, scheduled for November 18–20 in Vancouver, WA, will focus on communication. Attendees can expect a range of sessions, from foundational strategies in public health messaging to specialized topics like risk and crisis communication. There will also be time for WSALPHO committees to meet during the symposium. If you have questions about the learning symposiums, please get in touch with Tracey Thomas at tthomas@wsac.org.    

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This event is intended for LHJ staff involved in their agency’s communications, whether formally in a communications role or informally through responsibilities that include significant public engagement. Staff participating in WSALPHO committees may also be interested in attending.

EVENT COST 

• WSALPHO will cover, registration, lodging (if booked using the custom link), and meals provided during the event. 
• Attendees are responsible for parking, travel expenses, addtional meals, etc. 

HOTEL RESERVATIONS (Room block closes at 4:30 pm on 10/17/25)

• WSALPHO will cover hotel room and tax costs for attendees through our room block at the Hilton Vancouver, available for the nights of 11/17, 11/18, and 11/19.

Important:

• A credit card is required to reserve your room. While WSALPHO covers the room rate and tax through the group block, we do not control the hotel’s policies regarding incidental deposits, late cancellation fees, or no-show charges. Attendees are responsible for any such charges. Please note: The room cost will appear in your confirmation email due to the hotel’s automated system. Your credit card will not be charged at this time. It will only be charged if you incur fees for late cancellation, no-show, or incidental expenses, as determined by the hotel’s policy.

HOTEL CANCELLATION POLICY

• Cancellations made less than 72 hours before arrival will result in a fee equal to one night’s stay plus tax.
• No-shows will be charged a fee of at least one night’s stay.
• Per hotel policy, arrivals after 1:00 AM PST on the day after check-in will be considered no-shows.
• Attendees are fully responsible for any fees due to late cancellations or no-shows.

PARKING 

Parking is available for overnight guests on the property at a rate of $34 a night. WSALPHO attendee will be given a 25% discount on parking.

AGENDA

• The agenda will be emailed to registered attendees 30 days before the event, unless we communicate a different timeline.
• The training will begin at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, run all day Wednesday, and conclude at 12:00 PM on Thursday, with planned meals including lunch on Tuesday, breakfast and lunch on Wednesday, and breakfast on Thursday.
